Re: Covid Vaccination
To All Our Patients:
There has been much talk about allowing dentists to provide COVID vaccinations. Last week the Governor signed a waiver allowing dentists in California to administer the COVID vaccination, otherwise considered to be outside our scope of practice. The obvious intention is to allow as many health care providers as possible to become vaccinators, with the result being an earlier end to the pandemic. The two current vaccines demand storage at a VERY low temperature, much lower than the average refrigerator is capable of producing. The reality is that dental offices are not equipped for this.
So as a matter of practicality, we are not likely to administer the vaccination in our offices. I wish that were not the case. The good news going forward is that dentists will be able to participate in what likely will be mass vaccination events. I’m hopeful to take part as I believe the more people we have available to poke arms, the faster we can put this behind us!
Please contact the San Joaquin County Public Health department to get the latest news and direction concerning the vaccination, they are ultimately charged with the distribution and sequencing of vaccinations. Another resource is your regular health care provider. We will endeavor to keep you abreast of any changes of which we become aware. In the meantime we remain open and are adhering to CDC guidelines concerning current infection control protocols. Please reach out if you have any questions. My staff and I are always here for you and your family.
