Choose an area of care

Family and cosmetic dentistry under one roof

Dr. James Van Sicklen, Jr., DDS has cared for Stockton smiles for more than 30 years. In that time the practice has stayed deliberately general, a single dental home where a six-month cleaning, a chipped front tooth and a full set of implants are all handled by people who already know your history.

That matters more than it sounds. Dentistry is cumulative: the filling placed today determines what the same tooth needs in fifteen years. When one practice carries that record, treatment decisions are made with the whole arc in view rather than from a snapshot.

How our services are organised

The five categories above are not marketing groupings. They reflect genuinely different reasons people come in, and the distinction usually tells you where to start.

General dentistry is the routine care that keeps small problems small, examinations, professional cleanings, X-rays, and the preventive and periodontal work that protects teeth over decades. Most patients need nothing else. It is also where problems are found early enough that the answer is still inexpensive.

Restorative dentistry repairs and replaces what is already damaged or missing. Fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals and implants all sit here. If a tooth hurts, has broken, or is simply gone, this is the section that applies.

Cosmetic dentistry addresses teeth that are sound but that you are unhappy with, colour, shape, spacing and alignment. Veneers, whitening, bonding and orthodontic treatment belong here. The line between cosmetic and restorative is blurrier than it looks: a porcelain crown does both jobs at once.

Emergency dentistry covers anything sudden, pain, a break, a knocked-out tooth, a restoration that has come loose. These situations are time-sensitive, and the right first step is almost always a phone call rather than a form.

Pediatric dentistry is care for children, beginning far earlier than most parents expect, within six months of the first tooth appearing, or before the first birthday.

Not sure which applies?

You do not need to diagnose yourself before booking. If you are in pain, call (209) 951-3436 and say so. If you are overdue for a check-up and nothing hurts, book a routine exam and cleaning . The examination itself establishes what, if anything, needs attention.

Much of a first visit is spent explaining your individual treatment and getting to know you. Dr. Van Sicklen believes the key to quality care is communication and a humanistic approach, so nothing is scheduled before you understand why it is being recommended and what the alternatives are.

Insurance, payment and new patients

We are currently accepting new patients. We accept most major dental insurance plans, including Delta Dental, and take cash, check, major credit cards and CareCredit. Details are on our patient information page, and completing your new patient forms in advance means more of your first appointment is spent on your teeth rather than on paperwork.

The practice is at 1372 W Robinhood Dr Ste E, Stockton, CA 95207, serving patients across Stockton, Lodi, Manteca, Lathrop, French Camp and Lincoln Village.
